Global citizenship is an increasingly popular idea: colleges and universities use the term to encourage international education and global awareness and motivate students to interact with others, and businessmen use it highlight their dedication and commitment to sustainability and social responsibility around the world (Rockenbach, & Mayhew, 2014).
Benefits of Being A Global Citizen:
After reading Stephen Reysen and Iva Katzarska-Miller's article “A Model of Global Citizenship: Antecedents and Outcomes” and viewing the required video “Globalization: What is Happening to Us,” it is clear why global citizenship is essential for us and how can we shape our lives through it. Science and technology have become integral parts of our lives. These days, a lot of tech devices have been developed to accomplish a number of tasks. We now have plenty of ways to connect with our friends and family members abroad. It's safe to say that technology has made this world a global village. As an ordinary person, you may not be asked for playing a prominent role in a dynamic community. But as a global citizen, you would have to engage strangers, develop friendships with them, and expand your network. Thus, your duties and responsibilities will be more than your rights (Carter, 2014).
Should You Become A Global Citizen?
A global citizen is a person who is ready to sacrifice his wealth and life for the betterment and prosperity of humans and feels a sense of civic responsibility to the societies. For him, every part of the world is like a home. Global citizenship has nothing to do with eliminating borders and creating one mega-nation, but it is about acting on additional feelings of connectedness that encourages you to think globally and lets you expand or diversify your community. Being a global citizen, you would be responsible for every wrong deed and answerable to the other community members. It will surely help you boost your confidence and enable you to share your thoughts with the world without any confusion or hesitation (Fioroni, & Titterton, 2015).
