Question #1: Explain the importance of peers in determining children’s sense of self.
For various reasons, peers are crucial in forming a child's sense of self. First, by comparing themselves to others and realizing their strengths and shortcomings, children can develop their sense of self through peer interactions (Click & Parker, 2011). Second, a child's sense of value and self-esteem can be influenced by their peer interactions. While bad experiences might cause self-doubt, positive interactions with friends can increase self-confidence. These support the child's growth and improvement in good ways (Click & Parker, 2011). Third, peers give youngsters social feedback and validation, enabling them to assess if their actions and viewpoints are appropriate in the eyes of others (Click & Parker, 2011). Last but not least, friendships can help kids articulate their ideas and feelings and provide them with emotional support, which enhances their ability to express and comprehend who they are, appreciate themselves, and work towards success in their lives both at home and in school.
