First and foremost, homelessness is a societal concept or issue affecting some members from a societal perspective. The experience accompanying the situation can be undoubtedly mind-blowing, frustrating, and hurting. Moreover, it can quickly lower the victim’s self-esteem leaving them hopeless. For example, the case study family faces the homelessness issue after being kicked out of the uncle’s homestead. The family consists of a grandmother and two grandchildren who are teenagers. Working with them to secure a place for them or improve their livelihoods is necessary and required. I would be willing to give a helping hand and ensure that the family’s condition gets better in the long run. Specifically, like the Child Protective Investigator within the case study, I would get the family’s information, including the children’s, and contact potential agencies and initiatives to inform and negotiate their safety on their behalf.
Since the situation is heartbreaking and traumatizing, the family members would likely receive negative messages from their pathological inner critic, which is Eugene Sagan’s psychological term for demonstrating an undesirable inner voice that attacks and judges an individual (Łysiak, 2019). Many negative self-esteem-related messages could run across the minds of the grandmother and her two grandchildren due to the homelessness. For instance, they would perceive themselves as poor, rejected, unworthy, and perhaps unhelpful.
