Stored procedures are useful database objects when it comes to the design and maintenance of databases. Stored procedures allow the database designers to consolidate the data definition and data manipulation statements that can then be parameterized and later called just like a function call in most programming languages. This enhances reusability and cuts the designer’s time of rewriting the code repeatedly to perform similar tasks. Also, stored procedures encourage database designers to embrace the concept of modular programming (Gorman, 2020). With a proper naming convention, the designers can easily trace the part of the code to modify, increasing efficiency. For example, with a stored procedure, a single database request from an application can perform cascading database operations with a similar procedure call.
