Spanning Tree Protocol
Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) creates a logical tree structure comprising all the switches in the network. In particular, the switch with the best path and lowest priority is made the root bridge. If two switches have a tie, the one with the lowest bridge identity number is selected. In that light, the STP decides the switch to be the root bridge. Notably, every switch is given an identity known as the bridge identity (BID) in a network. BID has 8 bytes and is divided into 2-byte and 6-byte (Mukherjee, 2018). The 2-byte is the bridge priority, and the 6-byte is the switch address.
In the scenario at hand, all switches are in the default configuration. The STP selects the less powerful and smaller switch to be the root bridge, which is not the best choice.
