If I had a dime for every problem I introduced into a database design I'd have a lot of money. :)
Hopefully we all learn from each design we implement on how to do things better as we grow, and I'm sure there are a lot of war stories on poor database design.
The most recent example I had in my workplace was the deployment of database changes that were not fully tested on actual data. The designers requested changes to specific procedures in the database, and database procedures were redesigned and compiled successfully without actually running the queries on sets of production level data. As you might imagine, problems were revealed pretty quickly once the code was deployed: queries hanging, cartisean products, and lots of unhappy users.
In my example not only was poor design part of the problem, but insufficient testing of changes made it worse.
QUESTION: Let's hear some war stories that might be real or could happen, and how better design can help us defend against such problems?

Normalization is a critical part of the database design process, and ignoring to implement correct principles will result in a dysfunctional database. Normalization refers to the sets of methods used to structure tables to their integral parts. Each table characterizes only one entity, and its columns serve to fully demonstrate only that entity the table represents (Muñoz, 2019).
