“The Moral Argument for Diversity in Newsrooms is also a Business Argument – And You Need Both” by Nicole Childers has enabled me to obtain three primary lessons. First, only a small proportion of journalists from marginalized communities can an opportunity to work in renowned newsrooms in the United States of America (USA) due to increased racial disparities.
Second, hiring, recruiting, and promoting more individuals of color does not foster diversity and inclusion in marginalized communities. However, committing to inclusion programs and diversity as newsrooms’ core operations and values is the most significant thing (Childers, 2020). Employees from marginalized communities should be allowed to cover the experiences and stories of underrepresented groups of people.
