Answer to Question 1
To become an effective Christian preacher, making a strong finish is more important than a strong beginning. I like the techniques, such as choosing the best idea to deliver at the end of the sermon, and for this purpose, the use of an appropriate adage is most suitable if we do not have a good ending (Galli et al., 1994). In the same way, to become a good preacher and make your speech more effective and impressive, one has to develop a feeling of compassion and affection for your hearers. A preacher will preach from his heart and soul, making the audience understand and assimilate Christian ideals. Using this technique effectively uses ethos and pathos to persuade your listeners on the way to God (Galli et al., 1994). Besides, using an easy, fluent, and organized structural organization for your sermon details the beginning, the middle, and the end is another inspirational technique that makes you sound coherent and understandable during the preaching.
One dilemma that preachers often face is the lack of appropriate illustration before or during sermon delivery. It is crucial to understand that the use of effective and timely illustration saves time and energy spent in the verbal elaboration of a complex theological injunction. Thus, the use of illustration is an effective preaching technique that every preacher should have command. Various ways to add illustrations into your sermon include images, quotes, figures, facts, and even fake or true stories (Galli et al., 1994); this storehouse of theological illustrations is one of my favorite resorts that I would like to incorporate in my preaching. Effective and apt use of illustration is a technique that lends a preacher the ability to win hearts by relating a Christian ideal to real-life events or places.
However, whether I use one preaching technique or a set of multiple ones, the most crucial thing for me is that a preacher has to maintain their unique delivery style. Using a list of suggested preaching techniques does not imply imbibing an affected and ineffective preaching style. Therefore, I believe that using one's organic style facilitates a preacher to be within their limits and use their emotional gusto in a unique way to deliver the divine message with ease and grace (Galli et al., 1994). Losing your unique style means losing the organic kernel from the sermon and deliberately making it sound affected and artificial. Thus, one of my key takeaways is never to lose your specific preaching style while incorporating new preaching techniques; only adopting this hybrid approach will enable me to become an effective preacher.
