Key Point Summary Module Three
You are required to summarize five key points of your choice from the chapters in module three. Be thorough in defining and providing the practical application for each of your key points. I'm looking for a deep level of critical thought in your summaries, as well as your ability to connect this assignment to your desire to improve as a competent communicator. You are to write a minimum of two paragraphs for each of your key points (1) the first paragraph should define the concept, while (2) the second should explain how you plan to improve your communication in the selected area. Each paragraph should include at least five sentences or more.
Attached you will find the required template for the key point assignment(s) and you should use this template throughout the remainder of the course. Finally, be sure to list the page number for each of your selected concepts.
Example: If you took interest in learning about ethnocentrism from chapter 2, you could list that as a key point by defining it and providing insight through an in-depth summary of the concept.

Focusing on the audience means knowing their needs and focusing on communication to connect with them (DeVito, 2018). It is an important principle that depicts effective communication. It means that one understands their audience and is interested in what affects them. Additionally, it means that one tailor’s communication specifically for them (Kloppers & Fourie, 2018). It makes the audience feel heard and understood.
I plan to improve communication in this area by seeking to first understand my audience so that I can reason at their level. Secondly, I plan to always tailor my message to address their specific concerns. Thirdly, I plan to adopt a communication style that best suits my audience’s preferences. Additionally, I plan to always engage my audience. Finally, I plan to always demonstrate empathy while engaging with my audience at all levels.

Positive labeling means using positive words and affirmations when describing someone (DeVito, 2018). It is an important principle that facilitates effective communication. A good communicator can describe their audience using positive terms that motivate them to listen. They feel empowered to heed the communicator’s remarks. Positive labeling also encourages the audience to work on and improve how they communicate.
I plan to improve communication in this area by using affirmative words that describe the audience’s strengths. Secondly, I plan to always encourage my audiences by using words that define possibility. I also plan to always offer constructive criticism. I believe that this will emphasize other people’s strengths and motivate them to improve. Finally, I plan to always recognize other people’s efforts and strengths since I believe it will boost their confidence.
