The control of the media by six entities is more of a media capture. While it might show the financial might of these individuals, it also poses a serious threat to the dissemination of information in society. This is because the six entities might withhold information that might be contrary to their interests and only allow for the opposite. In other words, there is no diversity of opinion since only one dimension exists. Ownership of a bulk of these media houses means no contrary opinion shall be entertained. It might sound like a cliché, but information is the real power.
The Fairness Doctrine was a rule that required licensed media houses to present content or issues of social importance, and they were to be presented in an unbiased and authentic manner (Millenback, 2021). Most media houses presently are usually quite partisan, especially when it comes to politics and social issues. Powerful entities always have a way of influencing public opinion through these private media houses, thereby distorting the truthfulness of information as it is. This has resulted in the divisive nature of the current society around the country.
The Fairness Doctrine needs to be reinstated based on what has been happening around the country. Currently, television and radio stations are not required to be balanced, and they air their content in any manner that suits them (Rao-Poolla, 2021). This is because they are privately owned. While the Fairness Doctrine might not effectively end this, its reinstatement can help to create some form of consciousness within both the media industry and the society on the need to create some level playground. It shall also create a precedent that can be used to create new legislations to control privately owned media houses.

Information may come from different sources and standpoints, especially in modern environments. However, when consuming news, someone is likely to fall into the bias bubble when constantly receiving the same opinions and perspectives. Echo chambers make people encounter views that reinforce their own, and, in this way, it is easy to get misinformed and distorted to consider alternatives or opposing viewpoints. Within such environments, people get fueled by confirmation bias favoring existing beliefs (Jiang et al., 2021). Examples of new sources where I will likely get entrapped in an echo chamber include online, internet, and social media platforms with like-minded people. For instance, the direct news source in the social channel may consist of friends, colleagues, or acquaintances with similar opinions concerning specific topics. Moreover, the internet has a filter bubble created by algorithms that record how users navigate websites (Munger, 2020). Indirect sources of new web pages use algorithms to reveal content similar to the audience and what people have expressed interest in (Tzu, 2023). Such can prevent me from seeking new ideas, perspectives, or more options online.
