Evaluating Martin Luther King's Speech, "I have a Dream"
For this assignment, you will watch the Martin Luther King speech "I Have a Dream" and evaluate King's use of stylized language within the speech. Your book lists 5 kinds of stylized language and King utilizes them in his speech. You are to go through the speech and identify at least 1 example from the speech where King used each of the 5 kinds stylized language and explain what the type is and why it is effective in the speech.
The second part of the assignment is to use your upcoming Persuasive Speech topic and provide examples of each of the stylized language types related to your topic. You must create an example of each of the 5 for your chosen topic. You will not have to actually use the examples when you give your speech but it is to get you thinking about the language you use for your speech so that you have the most powerful and effective language you can create.
