Introduction
The image of a passionate dream contains the whole movie of Creed as it tackles the life story of the son of a former heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed. The movie was breathtaking as the viewers were incredibly captivated by the cinematic presentation and storyline of the movie. Since Creed has been correlated to the movie series titled Rocky, people have already decided and known the flow of the story, but what Creed prepared was more than the audience's expectations. It was a powerful and emotional presentation of dreams and passion that brings out the characteristics and changes to its characters in a very timely spacing (Henderson, 2015).
The infamous Ryan Coogler directed the magnificent sports-drama film, and at the same time, he and Aaron Covington were the ones who also wrote the movie's screenplay. Creed was released on November 25 of 2015, which simultaneously withheld the 40th anniversary of the Rocky movie series as a sequel. It was recognized with various awards forming its name and image to the entertainment industry that led to it being the center of various critics and reviews. In connection to this, this paper aims to provide an informative review of the history of boxing as sports, and at the same time to provide an analysis of what happened in the film. Using the fantastic movie titled Creed, this paper will discuss the deep representation of the three main themes, namely, Race, The American Dream, and Masculinity.
Background
The first evidence of boxing was first discovered during the latter part of the fourth millennium as the discoverers found it through the founded Mesopotamian stones. In addition, boxing has always been an excellent sport for the Greeks, which led to the success of festivals during those eras. The same system in today's policies for boxing that physically harms their opponents through their first is the same as before. The only difference would be the more strict rules in the game applied in today's era (Boddy, 2008). The importance of boxing in the latter years and now was still the same as before since people continuously believe that the true essence of boxing is to physically experience it through either watching it live or considering being a player in it. Despite the reality of endangering the lives of the people who play significant roles in this sport, boxing has continuously accepted and inspired various individuals. It was also presented that being a cultural influence, the events beneath this sport motivate the birth of various meaningful creations in arts, such as cinema or photography (Woodward, 2011).
This only implies the great importance of boxing in the history of sports as its aftermath and motivation continuously influence people, just like the movie Creed, where boxing changes the protagonist's life in the story. Despite his stable job and wonderful life, he, who people say owns nothing, throw everything away to pursue the life of being a boxer, his dream.
