The primary objective of Group 3 is to represent Tesla's board which must convince shareholders to vote for the proposed 2018 compensation package for Elon Musk, Tesla's chief executive officer (CEO). Shareholders play a significant role in determining a company's leadership, and their votes can retain or remove the existing CEO and increase or decrease his financial benefits. Tesla notified the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that on March 21, 2018, a special shareholders' meeting would be conducted to approve or turn down the compensation package proposal (Crum, 2018).
