This assignment focuses on the profiles from Diverse Voices in connection with the other readings assigned for this course. You are required to submit six write-ups (each worth 25 points) on six different class periods in an open Discussion Forum on Blackboard with the following format: on each write-up, you will 1) summarize the main points from a profile of your choice from Diverse Voices, 2) connect that profile to one of the topics/ themes/ concepts/ theories from the other readings assigned on the day of your submission, and 3) pose one question related to the readings for that day. These entries will be graded based on your ability to address these three elements. You should write between 250-350 words.
For this weeks profile, I read about Emile Lee. He is currently the senior vice president and global head of communications at Dun and Bradstreet. He specializes in corporate and strategic communications, executive communications, message development, public relations, media relations and many more. Lee talks about the lack of diversity within public relations and it starts with our parents wanting us to become a lawyer or a doctor and if we choose a career path that is different, it's deemed as were a failure or we won't be successful. He talks about his experience growing up as an Asian-American and how communications is not really a career choice for people in the Asian-American community.Lee went into school thinking that he was going to become a lawyer, but ended up working at an engineering firm because of his english skills,but it didn't workout for him. He eventually landed at a Hill and Knowlton affiliate office in Seoul where they were looking for english speakers to help manage multinational clients. Lee talks about how diversity in communications is key because we need to know how to connect with all audiences and markets. The more diverse it is in the workplace, the better we all can collaborate and the better the results will be. He also gives advice to find mentors of diverse cultures within the company you work for to become more well rounded within your public relations career. He also mentions that it is important to travel and experience different cultures rather than sitting in a classroom and learning about them. The main takeaway of Lee's profile is to embrace who you are and that being a minority is special due to the fact that we each have our own personal experiences that we bring to the table that make us diverse.

The Forbes reading ties into Lee's profile because they discuss the many reasons why marketing campaigns fall flat and that it's usually due to the lack of diversity happening behind the scenes. Due to the lack of diversity behind these campaigns many minority groups are not seen or heard. If companies continue to disregard the lack of diversity and inclusion happening behind the scenes, they are going to be losing major profits.
