Kurt Lewin’s Force Field Analysis constitutes an effective strategic tool to conceptualize and understand what is required for change in both personal and corporate environments. According to Lewin, an organizational present or desired state is characterized by both restraining [change obstacles] and driving forces [favorable forces for change] (Connelly, 2020). I want to change my organization’s bureaucratic practices to embrace a supportive culture centered on teamwork and mutual respect. The compelling reason is to shift from bureaucratic procedures to supportive culture is that the former constitutes a negative and significant association with practical commitment and empowering leadership (Hendryadi et al., 2020). The current status quo discourages information sharing and thus undermine employee’s capacity to exploit their innovative potential.
In applying the force field analysis model, I would integrate it with Lewin’s three-stage theory of change in order to unfreeze the current equilibrium (bureaucratic practices) and thus embrace supportive practices (Mtongana & Musundire, 2020). In order to unfreeze the current status quo and embrace a new direction, I will encourage openness and honesty among employees to mobilize group inclination to embrace change.
