This week we are discussing Genetically Modified Foods and just like any product available there are pros and cons. This will be a hands-on assignment that will require you visit a grocery store to compare and contrast Genetically Modified and Organic produce. Be sure to select the same type of fruit or vegetable to compare and contrast. You are not required to buy the product!
Note: You may ask a store employee for help to identify which produce is organic and which is a Non-organic.

These organic mangoes are red in color. However, some of its parts are orange-yellow in color. They are large-sized and weigh approximately 0.5kilogram (kg) per piece and smells sweeter than their non-organic counterparts.

There are many arguments concerning GM food labeling. Some of which are for and some are against the idea. The pros include the following: 1) It justifies the right of the people to choose from the nature of the produce that they will eat CITATION Piend \l 1033 (Pie Center, n.d.).; 2) It is moral to inform the consumers of the composition of the products that they will consume CITATION Piend \l 1033 (Pie Center, n.d.); 3) There is a strong evidence that genetically modified foods can cause malignancy or cancer formation. Therefore, it is imperative to denounce the use of GM food for health concerns (Bakshi, 2003).; 4) There are environmental concerns regarding the use of GM foods, as for instance, where these were grown or raised and the danger that they pose to the envirnoment (Oliver, 2014).; 5) Ninety-three percent (93%) in the citizens of Florida strongly approve that GMOs should be identified, labeled, and categorized (Pounds, 2014).; 6) and it is believed that compulsory labeling would increase opportunities of exporting these products to other countries that have strict GMO policies (Bullock & Desquilbet, 2002).
