Why are lands in IUCN categories V-VI significant?
To begin with, the lands in IUCN category V are particularly significant because they have distinct scene qualities which offer essential habitats to flora and fauna as well as other cultural attributes. Additionally, category V is exceptionally significant because it provides a stable platform that facilitates people’s interaction with nature. Last but not least, this category intends to protect valuable seascape and landscape to biodiversity (Primack & Sher, 2016). Comparatively, this category protects a relatively larger area than the 4th category. On the other hand, the lands in IUCN category VI protected areas intend to conserve habitats and the ecosystem as well as the managing the natural resources and cultural values; hence, this category is comparatively more significant than the 5th category. What are the practical implications when designing a reserve?
Firstly, when designing a reserve, designers need to make sure that the reserve is as large as possible to inhabit many species as well as preserve a considerably larger population of every species. Additionally, the designed park needs to offer a diversity of natural resources and habitats to facilitate and provide all the possible prerequisites that different species need for survival (Primack & Sher, 2016). Such resources include but are not limited to elevation gradients and keystones, which are habitat features which enhance broad biodiversity. Secondly, there is a need to acquire the land that is neighboring to the reserve to help maintain a buffer zone and reduce external dangers to the reserve.
What are the pros and cons of habitat corridors?
The possible advantages of habitat corridors include permission of two distinct parks to become effectively conjoined hence reducing the likel...
