The painting depicts a woman holding a sword in one hand. In the other hand, the woman is holding the head of a man which is the center of interest. In the painting, the colors used are consistent and classical. The painting has a symmetrical arrangement and does not feel heavy on one side. There is a beautiful contrast of colors in the painting. The black in the background, dark attire, and elements of white on the dress bring a balance to the painting. The brushwork flattens out and becomes more solid as one goes further which creates depth. The sleeves of the dress have repetitive circular shapes from the shoulders to the wrist which shows the main character as organized. The artist does a good job of bringing out the mood, which is a gloomy and dull one.
