Before John Johnson, AVIONICS’ top executive leader, left the team to self-manage, he engaged in two primary daily behaviors that made him stand out. First, he was good at empowering individuals. John had power. He had the ability to influence others and resisting from being influenced (Chapter 12, n.d.). John was inspirational and persuaded individuals to follow a specific course. For example, even though AVIONICS has never had leaderless teams before, John convinced his group that it was the best thing. He went ahead and organized an off-site training session where team members gathered. John explained how a leaderless team would work and ensured that members understood what they are expected to do.
