All the companies that use means of transport such as air, railroad, or water cooperate and ensure that there is standardized units for efficiency in their operations in order to provide better services for their customers. Transportation of cargo though is possible through air; it is however very costly thus intermodal transportation helps cut down the cost. This paper is about the significance of intermodal transportation in the transport sector.
European intermodal road-rail freight transport is considered as one of the comprehensive solutions to the problems related to road freight transport and its financial problems. ‘‘The European transport market made a gradual move from making roads to rail possible to ensure efficient transportation is available’’,(Islam & Dewan,2016) . Its system mainly involved supporting activities such as renting out of equipments, inspections and cleaning. In order to achieve this, the European intermodal road-rail transport network ensured that it has taken care of the needed task by forming cohesive organizations. The task mainly involved to offer responsibility and ensure the initial oppression of knowledge is safeguarded to sustain growth and competiveness in Europe. The development of intermodal ideally involves two main attributes; first, the transport links, the United States was required to improve means of transports such as the railway networks and the highways this was a considerable investment needed to deliver efficient services to its customers. Secondly, the transport nodes entailed the airports and the seaports. The seaports seemed to have developed more efficiently than the airports hence easing transfer and transshipment ways. The intraregional of exports and imports are massively increasing around United States. However, with the magnitude of freight transportation in the United States has had a steady growth hence gaining its fame due to its door to door services.
