The concept map shows the link between slavery and higher education. At the center of the map is enslavement, which is linked to all the other concepts presented. The video suggests that enslavement is linked to higher education in the US since the number of colleges was increasing as more slaves arrive in the United States (Democracy Now, 2013). These slaves were crucial in working in colleges and universities by providing labor and other services. The presidents of the major Ivy League institutions were also sons-in-law or were linked to the slave trade. The slave trade and the plantations of the South were critical sources of finance for the higher institutions of learning. As the slave trade peaks, the economy also improved. I have linked the rise of higher education to science since as more universities are established, the research and education in the sciences field also develop at the same time. The higher education systems are also linked to the ideas being spread about blacks. For example, the professors in the universities teach their students that blacks are inferior, which leads to a notion about blacks that becomes ingrained in society. According to Gould (1993), "racial prejudice may be as old as recorded human history, but its biological justification imposed the additional burden of intrinsic inferiority upon despised groups." Besides that, the slaves were also used in science, whereby their cadavers were used in experiments and other activities. The scientific research also supported the view that whites were superior. Moreover, these graduates are also responsible for the rise of capitalism. The colleges are critical in educating people, and they are also linked to the development of the country and capitalism.
