With the increasing resistance from some local markets and pressure from government regulations, I recommend Walmart to pursue and maintain specific entry strategies that enabled it to adapt to some regions quickly. The primary globalization strategy for Walmart over the last two decades are acquisitions and joint ventures. The company struggled to enter local markets in Japan, South Korea, and Brazil. However, it did well in Mexico, Canada, and Central America (Alcacer, Agrawal, & Vaish, 2017). In reality, location characteristics can explain the differences in the performance of Walmart. The enterprise performed well in countries that have a culture close to the one of the United States of America (USA).
Walmart encountered potential risks for not addressing and mitigating its entry model issues. I suggest that acquisition was the best entry strategy since the enterprise acquired technology, employees, supply chains, and brand name. As such, the company adapted faster to the local market.
