Executive Summary
Panera Bread Company is a chain store of bakery-cafe fast causal restaurant in American. The company has other restaurants in 2000 locations in the United States and Canada. The mission statement of Panera Bread Company is “A loaf of bread in every arm.” The company’s mission is to expand the consumption of their baked products broadly in the areas where they operate. One of the main strengths of the company is its strategic location in congested urban centers (Skripak, 2016). This location has assisted the company to offer its services to both shopping customer and business bases. The vision of Panera Bread Company is that their consumers will love the freshness of their products and the tastiness of the products to the degree that these customers will visit the restaurant frequently (Thompson, 2013). Some of the values that Panera offer to its customers are affordable prices, respecting customers and employees, being innovative always, and creating good healthy products.
Bread is a staple food in the region and Panera believes that if it enhances flavorful menu offerings to its customers, it will be able to expand its base market for baked products around the outlets and franchises of Panera. However, there is one area that the vision deviates from the text. They have used a broad language instead of generic. Panera has an attractive and appealing menu. The company has a good brand name and has received high ratings from some of its customers. Additionally, Panera has good franchises with higher sales compared to other stores (Thompson, 2013). However, Panera has some weaknesses. The sales of the franchised stores are high compared to the actual sales of company-owned stores. Panera also faces stiff competition from other stores like Starbucks. The rivals of Panera have started to imitate its menu and its dining ambiance. Panera has an opportunity of opening more outlets and expanding its markets internationally.
Panera is recognized as a leading player in the restaurant industry. The company continues to ensure that its cafes remain with the current environment and health concerns while they are offering quality food in regard to Product, Environment and Quality Service (PEGS). Some of the major components of the value chain of Panera Bread Company are Supply Chain Management, Sales and Marketing, and Operations. The suppliers of Panera have an interest in maintaining low prices of dough so that they will be able to maintain viable franchise operations (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, 2017).
One of the five generic competitive strategies that are discussed in Chapter five is a broad differentiation strategy. Panera strives to be unique to its customers. With this strategy, the company is able to satisfy the specific tastes of its customers better than its rivals. The company has high and fast dining services and this makes the consumers happy. Panera has created a comfortable environment for consumers where they can sit, eat, or work. Panera has proven itself with excellent customer services.
