Background
Tony works as a cashier for MFR Corporation. He started as a credit and collection clerk 15 years ago and was promoted to his current role not just because of his performance but largely due to his honesty and integrity. As the cashier, he is expected to deposit all remittances and collections weekly to the bank. He has done this several without fail and even won the "outstanding employee award." At some point, Tony needed about $1000 to sort personal issues and was loaned and paid back the amount on time. But suddenly, tony has disappeared from work without any formal permission. He has not picked calls lately, and after the Human Resource Manager was notified of his absence, someone was picked to fill his cashier position temporarily. However, records indicate that $ 85,000.00 is missing. The salesman received the amount, but there are no records to show that the amount was banked.
Statement of problem
Tony has been lost for about a week, and $85,000 missing, and is finally located in his local hospital watching over his child, who is recovering from surgery. According to Tony, he took the money to save his child's life, and had he not taken the money, he would have lost his child. He pleads for leniency and commits to paying back the money in due course. However, the company policy clearly states that anyone found to have stolen from the company regardless of their employment status will be fired immediately.
