Quiz: Professional Values Case Study Short Answer Assignment
Question 1
It is clear that the counselor is practicing outside the boundaries of his professional competency. Therefore, the professional value being violated is fidelity. This is because he has failed to remain faithful and true to professional promises and responsibilities by ensuring that they offer safe and high-quality care to the patient. Based on the case, the counselor is aware that she does not possess the knowledge to provide safe and quality care but still continues to serve the client.
Question 2
The value being violated is fidelity, where a counselor is required to be faithful and true to their professional promises and responsibilities. This is exhibited by ensuring that they have right qualifications to handle the responsibilities. By hiring an online service to complete the task, the master’s student will have wrong qualifications and will never be based on his competency.
Question 3
The value being violated is autonomy. This is affirmed by the fact that the client is never given opportunity for self-determination, with her own opinions, values, beliefs, and perspectives. Before enrolling the client to any program, the counselor must reason with the client and let him or her understand the implications of enrolling and not enrolling into the program.
Question 4
The ethical value violated is justice. It was a hallmark of injustice to assign the intern many responsibilities without considering other work responsibilities assigned to the student. Therefore, there is unfair distribution of care for the patients, which is affirmed by the number of cancellations recorded within the first two months. Moreover, the student is overwhelmed by the many responsibilities she has, which leads to unfair care provision among patients.
