The ‘Boeing, Lockheed and the documents’ case enumerates the various situations that occur when companies are competing for similar contracts. According to the case, Lockheed and Boeing applied for contracts with the government, before Boeing, using unethical means to obtain Lockheed’s documents gave them an unfair advantage to win the contract. However, the win precipitated the onset of investigations that resulted in adverse consequences for Boeing. The case outlines how competition leads institutions to fail to observe moral principles leading to detrimental effects.

Boeing engineers and executives wanted Lockheed’s documents so that they could compare Lockheed’s bid to theirs. Boeing Company started a five billion rocket project, which fostered an increase in pressure for the company to win the multi-billion dollar contract. By getting proprietary information about Lockheed’s bid and utilizing it, the engineers made their proposal better than that of Lockheed, thereby becoming the leader in the contract.
Based on the consequences faced by executives that were complicit, I think what goes around comes around, and choices have consequences.
