Founded in 1984 by Mike Lazardis RIM began in the field of information technology and no one knew it would grow to be a huge success. In 1988 it began dealing in wireless data-only appliances which was its major investment (Shafer, 2002).
In 1996 the company developed a PCMIA plug-in card that made it possible for computers to access wireless email. This innovation and others is the reason product development in the company has been seen as efficient and effective.
