Regime Change in Latin America
Latin America is a region that has experienced numerous political developments in recent years, particularly regarding change of regimes. Bolivia has experienced regime changes, which have experienced economic, cultural, and political upheavals. The unrest and political storms experienced within the region show the emergence of a prevalent political trend within American society. In 2019, Bolivia experienced a turbulent political occurrence in recent history. This was when there was an alleged engagement in electoral fraud during the Bolivian General Election, granting the incumbent President Evo Morales victory. To fight against the happenings, demonstrations, hunger strikes, and barricades led to the regime change.
As people continued to picket for their democratic rights, the incumbent President and his entire administration were forced to resign. After their resignation, President Morales moved to Mexico to seek political asylum while Jeanine Áñez took over as the new President. While the President was selected for an interim role to organize an election, there are advanced measures she has undertaken to shape the nation's foreign policy. This is perceived to threaten negotiation with allies and transform the political liberties of the people, especially the ex-officials of the past regime (Kurmanaev, 2019). It will never be easier for the new regimes to arrive at a democratic stance with the opposing side.
Instead of adopting a conciliatory approach in the policy formulation, Áñez was imposing a purge on the society, which is a harmful social and economic policy with negative implications on political liberties. While President Áñez told reporters she intended to unite the nation, her policy approach was contrary to this promise. Aspects such as Catholicism were included within the government, with ministers being sworn in using bibles and making speeches shadowed by aides carrying a cross (Kurmanaev, 2019). The religious undertones in the public appearance also threatened the people's social, economic, and political liberties.
On the other hand, the past regime was regarded as the most transformative. The only downside was when Mr....
