Assess if the United States foreign policy during the 1930s helped to promote World War II. Could the United States have prevented the outbreak of World War II? If so, how? If not, why not?
Explain if the United States, despite neutrality, aided the Allies against the Axis powers.
Analyze if the use of atomic (nuclear) weapons to defeat enemies in war is a setback for democracy (President Truman's decision to drop the atom bomb on Japan).

The United States could not have prevented world war II. There are three main reasons for this position. First, the Treaty of Versailles had failed at addressing the root causes of world war I. It seems that the treaty mainly focused on humiliating Germany for their role in the cause of the war but failed to address the issues that caused the war to erupt (Kritsiotis, 2020). Consequently, the United States could not have prevented Germany from retaliating. Secondly, the league of nations which the United States President Woodrow Wilson proposed, had failed at bringing counties together. Some countries, such as Germany and Japan, withdrew from the league, making it weak. Therefore, despite championing the league of nations, the United States could not have prevented world war II.
