How will Juanita’s cultural and socioeconomic factors influence the development of an asthma education plan?  As a Hispanic, child living with her grandmother, mother and older sibling, it is likely that the adults in the house may not be fully conversant in English and especially for the grandmother.  This represents a communication barrier and the choice of intervention to improve health outcomes.  Furthermore, Juanita lives in an overcrowded low-income neighborhood most likely with poor ventilation and risks worsening her asthmatic condition.  The global of childhood asthma is increasing and is one of the major causes of childhood death. Indoor and outdoor pollution, poverty, health inequities, poverty and neighborhood affect the prevalence of asthma in urban environments (McCurdy, Winterbottom, Mehta, & Roberts, 2010).  In America, there is a heavy burden and morbidity asthma among Black and Hispanic child living in the urban environments compared to White children (Bryant-Stephens, 2009). It is necessary to consider health disparities in the asthma education plan and improving the patient- provider relationship to create mutual trust with the carers to ensure there is patient adherence.
