Container port automation is installing a computerized system that handles the loading and offloading of containers into and out of the ships. It is efficient and improves time management at the ports. Being a new system, most countries have not invested in it to handle their marine and container transport. The benefits of the system include reducing manual work, time and the wage costs. Disadvantages of the same system are in the line of economic spheres, the global competition, and the cost-benefits implications. It this paper, the economic side effects are explained.
Economic competition around the world in marine transport is rising, and most countries are moving hastily to up the game. Most of these movements are confusing the world transport system and countries do not organize themselves properly to acquire the new regime. The process could be mismanaged to an extent that it will not be properly effective. Other countries that have not reached the capacity to install the automated system are likely to overspend or overstretch their budgets (Rodrigue, 2013). The development of a country to establish such automated ports may be of influence on the type and quality of machines they are to use. The machines may vary depending on where and how easily they can be acquired or manufactured (Phillips, 2016).
