“The Evening and The Morning and The Night”
Butler’s The Evening and The Morning and The Night is a short and haunting story. The haunting nature of the story is presented through its various themes. One of the main themes evident in the short story is the inhumane treatment of the sick. Human beings are expected to be responsible for one another and help each other in times of trouble. However, the short story presents the opposite of this. The individual suffering from DGD faces discrimination and isolation (Butler). Many of these patients turn out suicidal due to the discrimination and isolation they face from the people who are supposed to care for them. It is such themes that create the urge for the reader to read the entire story.
