The article is about the struggles of Emmanuel de Merode, the chief warden at Virunga national park, to keep the park running against the many obstacles it faces. De Merode has had to go through several challenges that any other person would have succumbed to. But he has remained steadfast in his quest to change the fortunes of the park and the people living around. The park faces threats from armed militia who have killed several rangers in the past. Recently, oil exploration company Socco, emerged as a big threat because there is fear that they might be interested in exploring some parts of the park.
