Cathy O’Neill's Weapons of Math Destruction: Book Review

The author writes about her personal experiences regarding Weapons of Math Destruction. She includes different facets of life, and shows how these aspects are influenced by the presence of WMD’s. From employment screening, college rankings, wellness programs, and policing, credit scoring systems affect the social classes differently. The rich gain more advantage than the poor. Because of the algorithm’s in our society, people tend to forget to relate deeply with one another and appreciate and celebrate human connection.
O’Neil also shares some stories where people talk about how they were shunned by certain algorithms. One story is about a teacher who gets fired, because of low rating on a teacher assessment tool.
