Those Winter Sundays Name Institution Due Date Those Winter Sundays Robert Hayden’s Those Winter Sundays is a clear expression of the speaker’s guilt and remorsefulness for failing to recognize and appreciate the father’s love for his family. The poem has only three stanzas through which the author creates a vivid picture of the father’s sacrifices to his family that often go unnoticed by the speaker. The speaker’s naivety while growing up could not allow him to understand the actions of the father whose love for his family could only be expressed through his actions. A close reading of the poem allows for a comprehensive analysis of the poem’s intricate details as it develops and thus creating an enhanced understanding of the speaker’s point of view. The speaker reflects on the father’s action at the beginning of the first stanza saying, “Sundays too my father got up early,” CITATION Hay19 \l 1033 (Hayden, 2019). The line sets up the reflective mood of the poem as it displays the speaker’s flashbacks on his father’s actions. The author maintains the reader’s attention and understanding of the meaning of the poem in line five of the first stanza saying that no ever showed the father gratitude for all he did for his family CITATION Hay19 \l 1033 (Hayden, 2019). The omission at the beginning of the poem does not change the meaning of the poem as the following lines create a picture of the father’s daily routine in the morning. Despite waking up very early in the morning and putting on his clothes in the blueblack cold and cracking his hands from laboring during the weekdays, the fath...
