Paper Summary
The paper focuses on developing an evolutionary game theory model. The model is vital in illustrating how multiple relationship interactions within demographic aspects can influence the behaviour traits prevalence affecting the transmission of HIV. Besides, the paper also gives insights into how social contexts can also influence the transmission of HIV.
In viewing models of behaviour and transmission of HIV, the paper critically focuses on five of such models. In the first model, the evolutionary game model is combined with population simulation. Secondly, statements gathered from HIV status results of an individual are used for a signal instead of focusing on using or not using protection. The article further emphasizes that disadvantages of using signalling as it affects acceptance of relationships. Further, the model relates social stigma in its third model to propensities of agents to disclose their HIV conditions with utmost honesty. Fourth in the models is the explicit examination of two types of stigma that have associations with HIV. Such stigmas are association stigma and condition stigma. Examination of the two stigmas is vital in a finding of contrasting and distinct impacts associated with honest reporting, disease transmission and relationship acceptance. Finally, the article highlights the fifth model in which linking of the approach of evolutionary game theory and modelling disease transmission to generally accepted approaches.
The article generalizes EGT models as pairs of agents that are randomly matched and specific inherited strategies bearers that interact to produce results. Further, it is highlighted in the article that populations and agents use EGT models to gradually learn that strategies that involve honest signalling and or hiding HIV conditions may provide greater or lesser rewards than other alternatives. Another revelation by this article is that populations and agents get an opportunity to learn that by accepting or rejecti...
