Analysis of Structure of the book The Kite Runner
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hossein is one of the great books that I have come across. The book narrates a story of friendship, good and evil, betrayal and also redemption. The author has used an involving tone and a reflective tone throughout the entire book and this is one of the features of the book that make it to be outstanding. In each of the pages of the book, the writer appears to have captured the art of getting the readers to stick to the book and read it to the end. Through the use of reflective tone we also feel part of the story as we observe the characters in the book going through the various occurrences in the story.
The tone can be observed at the beginning of the book when we are informed that there is a war that has happened in Afghanistan. At this point, the reader begins to wonder what will happen to the characters who were introduced at the beginning of the story given that there is a war. It is also at this point that one of the themes of the story is observed that is the theme of betrayal. As a strategy of making the reader to reflect on the various occurrences in the story, the author narrates the events in such a way that readers become part of the story. In fact at a certain point, the author turns the story and Amir begins narrating their own experience. The reader can feel a sense of connection with the life situation that is affecting Amir. We do sympathize with the situation of Amir one point given that we as human beings, there are times that we commit mistakes in our lives and the best way through which we can reconcile with those that we have wronged is by seeking forgiveness from them.
In terms of sentence structure, one of the notable styles that has been used by the author is the parallel structure. The parallel structure refers to a style in writing where the author repeats the various occurrences in the story so that they can have a connection throughout the entire story. In page 71, the author writes, ‘Hassan runs the Kite for Amir’ and in page 391, he writes, ’Amir runs the Kite for Sahrab’. There are also other quotes from the book that have been repeated at different points in the story. In page 71, when Hassan is about to get the blue kite for Amir, he says to Amir, ‘For you a thousand times over’ and the words can be seen repeated in page 391, when Amir is about to receive the Kite for Sahrab.
The sentences that are used throughout the story also appear to signify the thoughts of the characters in the entire story. The sentences follow a pattern of long short long short. The sentences are put in such a way that they portray the thoughts that Amir was having as a child. In some cases when you are having thoug...
