In understanding the dynamics of the society we are living in, specific disciplines can help us understand certain behaviors. Human beings, for example, exhibit a different set of behaviors ranging from one individual to another. Sociology as a discipline enables us to understand why and how people react and behave in a particular manner. According to Boucherf (2015), sociology is a phenomenal study inclined to define human beings' nature concerning society. Sociology, therefore, is based on two critical factors; human beings and their relation to society. Research methods are practical tools that can be employed to ensure we understand sociology issues without any bias. Based on the Hollaback video, research methods are crucial in Sociology to research and understand society.
The Hollaback issue demonstrates how "data" can be misleading when theory is lacking in supporting the data in societal issues. Human beings are prone to interpret a particular scenario differently based on their background, which affects their way of thinking. A specific type of data can therefore fit multiple theories, which can be misguided in the field of Sociology. Regarding collecting accurate data in Sociology, data collection is an important aspect that involves data selection. The interrelationship between data collection and data selection, a research method, attempts to understand society better.
