Clinical education plays an integral role in preparing nurses for their professional practice. However, there is a deep gap between the nursing education process and clinical practice. Consequently, the current clinical education does not provide learners with the relevant skills to authenticate their merits and clinical skills, making the education lack its expected effectiveness.
The Current Problem
Medical researchers have noted cases where students, even those with excellent theoretical knowledge, have had challenges providing patient care. These findings confirm that problems are preventing clinical students from learning effectively since they have been unable to put into practice what they learned theoretically.
Research Question
1 What are the problems of clinical education in nursing, and what are the strategies to improve it?
Methods
Design
The researchers used a descriptive qualitative research design, in which the participants were selected from clinical nursing educators and nursing students of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences (IUMS). The respondents were chosen using the purposeful sampling technique and included 35 nursing students (20 female, 15 male, 7 freshmen, 6 sophomores, 15 juniors, and 7 senior) and 5 clinical educators (3 female, 2 male; the mean work experience 15 years) ().
Ethical Consideration
The ethics committee approved the study of IUMS, after which verbal and written informed consent was obtained from the participants. The participants were assured that their information would remain confidential.
