Gius, Mark. "Gun ownership and the gun control index." Atlantic economic journal 36.4 (2008): 497-499.
The article establishes the relationship between crime rates and gun control in the US. Specifically, the study explains whether the rates of guns ownership in the nation have any impact on the level of criminal activities in the country. The study is different from other researches because it majors on a topic that has not been greatly exploited. The article states that the topic is important since most murders are related to allowing the public to own guns through obtaining licenses from the government. Therefore, the research is based on the assumption that if owning guns contributes to the crimes, then reducing the ownership might reduce the level of the murders, especially homicide cases. The study extended to the characteristics of those who are involved in the crimes such as their income levels, education levels, race, and motive. However, the research concluded that the results of the study are not trustworthy as it showed that legal restrictions concerning gun ownership reduce the possibility of owning a gun. Hence, there is no relationship between owning a gun and the violent crimes as depicted by the study.
Cox, Karen S. "A Public Health Crisis: Recommendations To Reduce Gun Violence In America." Nursing Outlook, vol 66, no. 3, 2018, pp. 219-220.
The study considers the recommendations that are needed to be instituted by the government to minimize the level of gun violence in the US. The issue is based on the debate that occurred in Washington regarding the executive action to be adapted after a gunman killed around 17 individuals at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School at Parklands in Florida. Despite the continued killings that have continued to occur, the articles concluded that the government has not adapted a valid action against gun violence. However, there are certain recommendations that have been suggested such as conducting a background check on those who want to own guns. Also, the article describes that raising the legal age of owning guns will further help in reducing the problem. Another recommendation is to ban assault weapons which have been related to large number of mass shootings within the nations. Finally, the government wants to give authority to the court to confiscate guns from those who are considered a threat to the society and themselves. Therefore, the article provides certain recommendations that can be adapted to reduce the rate of gun violence in the nation.
Pless, I B. "Gun Control US Style: One Small Step." Injury Prevention, vol 13, no. 3, 2007, pp. 146-146.
The article describes the relationship between gun control and injury protection among the US citizens. Specifically, the article explains that several cases of injuries in the nation are associated with increase in gun ownership rates. The country allows people to own guns for their personal protections. However, the very same people have turned into exploiting the opportunity to hurt others such as small disagreements may increase a person’s rage and results into a homicide. Hence, the article majors on a study that was conducted across the nation to determine if ...
