Annotated Bibliography Instructions:

-You need an annotated bibliography on your project
-This bibliography has to have a title and a minimum of five items (at least two must be academic - for the academic journals, you can use the ones from class or look at Google Scholar). You need to write a paragraph explaining each item.
-You need to provide a brief explanation about that project.
- Write two paragraphs to introduce the topic. You can explore, for instance, the media report on crack epidemic in Los Angeles.
•Final Essay 30%: The final essay is a text analysis of news reports (newspapers, television reports, radio news) on drug-related issues at regional, national, international, or transnational level. The topic is quite open (from the involvement of Elvis Presley in the media campaign against drugs up to the Opium Crisis). You need to collect, at least, seven reports on your case study, analyze the news framing (i.e., the journalist perspectives, the language, pictures and/or images that come along with the report). You also need to discuss your topic through academic lenses. In other words, you need to collect data from scholarly sources to compare/contrast/criticize what and how journalists have reported your case study.
•You can also analyze political commentary (news editorials, political radio talk, etc.), but you need to have a clear differentiation between them and news reports.

Use of Crack among Mothers and their Effects
Everything a person rubs off on another person, and this is the case on mothers whose drug abuse often rubs off on their children. Drug use and abuse happen as a way or means to pleasure oneself. However, in the end, the effects rub off on a lot of people, mainly those who are around a person and who the person claim to care for. Mothers often find themselves in this situation as their children look up to them and what they do before and after pregnancy unknowingly affects their children. The use of crack, for example, has tremendous effects on children. It could be how they grow up or who they grow up to be later in life. Issues of drug dependency have become increasingly prevalent among mothers and children as many find themselves incredibly dependent on crack. This is indeed a major issue and one that needs to be dealt with as this only leads to cyclical or recurring problems.
Besharov, D. J., (1989, August 6). Crack babies the worst threats is mom herself. Retrieved from /archive/opinions/1989/08/06/crack-babies-the-worst-threat-is-mom-herself/d984f0b2-7598-4dc1-9846-3418df3a5895/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.bd1149f675e1
Besharov presents findings which appear to be asking people to face the ugly truth that mothers are the major threat in the issue of crack babies. He is asking people to consider the simple fact that leaving mothers who use crack to care for their babies is a problem. He takes his time to present his findings, noting that often, these mothers need help too and leaving them to take care of the babies cannot be considered a sensible solution. Children need to be protected from all dangers, including the threat their mothers may present. Besharov explicitly notes that if mothers cannot care for their children, then it is right to consider the option of taking the children away from them.
Blakeslee, S. (1989, September 17). Crack's Toll Among Babies: A Joyless View, Even of Toys. Retrieved from New York Times: /1989/09/17/us/crack-s-toll-among-babies-a-joyless-view-even-of-toys.html?pagewanted=all
Blakeslee goes straight to the point, noting that the use of crack has major effects on children. He starts by noting that children will have difficulty relating to the world, playing like normal children, making friends, as well as feeling or developing a mother-child relat...
