In Unit IV, you will submit a research paper on the topic of information technology (IT) governance and enterprise stakeholder engagement. In your Unit IV Research Paper, you will examine governance as it applies to portfolio management. You will also assess the role of internal collaboration between technology and business functions.

 

In this unit, you will create and submit an annotated bibliography of five peer-reviewed sources from the CSU Online Library that you will use as the basis of your paper. The five sources that you select are those that you consider to be relevant to the assigned topic.

 

Write a brief paragraph that summarizes each source. Be sure to emphasize the research; critique the research questions, methodology, and findings of the article; and explain each of the source's relevance and importance to the topic.

 

Your annotated bibliography should be two to three pages in length. Cite the sources in proper APA style. The references should be organized in alphabetical order.

The researchers used an event study methodology to understand how firms implement changes affecting board-level IT governance (ITG) are undertaken when the firms experience operational IT failures. They found out that when the firms experience operational IT failures, there was tendency to make IT improvements at the board level and especially for the executive members of the board. Benaroch & Chernobai (2011) collected data for publicly traded companies considering the IT or the strategy committees and IT performance as well as evaluating the effectiveness of the IT controls. The results are useful to understand the link between the operational IT failures and informational technology governance for the boards.

In the qualitative study, the researchers focused on how institutional logics of different stakeholder groups influence IT governance practices. Boonstra,  Eseryel & van Offenbeek, (2017) adopted an interpretative approach in the research design and methodology to develop theoretical views on the link between institutional logics and IT governance. This approach was useful to understand the peoples’ values and experiences of IT governance. Data was collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews where there were 21 interviews among participants representing three stakeholder groups in a hospital. When focusing on institutional logics, there was no switch between the hybrid logics (managerial-IT hybrid and medical-IT hybrid) and none was dominant. Competing institutional logics influence IT governance practices and it is important to ensure that there is no polarization of IT logics and integration.
