In a world running on economic and religious pillars, there will be conflicts between religious teachings and the need to accumulate wealth, especially in a capitalist society. The current paper seeks to make several annotations based on Max Weber’s The Spirit of Capitalism based on these conflicts.
Weber (1905, p. 24) argues that a person does not ‘by nature’ wish to earn more and more money. Rather, they want to earn just as much as is enough to sustain their current lifestyle. But modern capitalism demands more from the person leading to a conflict between employers and labor forces. If this argument is anything to go by, does it mean that modern capitalism is counter-productive to human development because it is attempting to change human nature?
