This is article is appropriate to my study on amateurism in college sports as it in the basic level provides information on amateur athletes in colleges which is the topic of interest. The article goes further and provides detailed information on the hardships that college athletes have to go through to honor their scholarship requirements in colleges. The article provides information on how sports governing bodies manipulate and "short change" college athletes in terms of payments and benefits they receive which are key factors among amateur college athletes.
The article also provides detailed information of the role coaches play in the welfare of amateur college athletes and in this case they seem to be engaging in power struggles and working to ensure the athletes do not receive their full benefits. The coaches fear if athletes receive their benefits they will lose control of them and lose their power. The article provides the background to these issues hence providing a good indication of the history of such struggles in amateur athletes. Therefore, the article in general covers a unique and important area in amateurism among college athletes.
The article adds to my research as it provides a financial angle and other struggles regarding amateur athletes in college and, therefore, will allows the presentation of the full picture regarding amateur college athletes.
