The authors are renowned researchers from the Università Campus Bio-Medico in Rome, Italy, and the Milan Polytechnic. Gualandi et al. performed a qualitative survey on orthopedic patients in a hospital to analyze their experience from their admission to final release or rehabilitation. The researchers followed patients throughout the hospital journey to study elements such as the relationship between the patients and their caregivers and the impact of the presence of family members during the process. The researchers also studied how different hospital departments and services are integrated and connected to ensure patients’ wellbeing. Conclusively, the survey revealed that a good patient-doctor relationship is paramount to the hospital experience, which alleviates the impact of the ineffective hospital system. The study also revealed that hospital services are integrated, and physicians are more often aware of issues that may affect their patients even when the patients are ignorant. Thus, the study is arguably a definitive study on a particularly neglected topic of patients’ hospital experience. Nonetheless, the study may be biased to one hospital and a specific group of patients; thus, there is a need for more studies to make comparative conclusions.
