PMID: 21047464.             The purpose of this comparative study is to compare patients’ perception of discomfort and vibration levels between piezoelectric and the magnetostrictive ultrasonic units during periodontal debridement. The inclusion criterion for patients to participate in this study included speaking English and an age limit of 18years, minimum of 12 vital natural teeth in each half of the mouth. Also, a clinical condition of case type 2 early periodontitis, and case type 3 moderate periodontitis or case 4 advanced periodontitis, and similar amount and distribution of calculus on both right and left sides.
