The United States takes several precautionary measures to prevent the spread of diseases from other countries. Ensuring public health and well-being is a crucial responsibility of the United States government in its duty to protect the health and well-being of citizens (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2023). One of the measures taken is screening and testing. Persons traveling from different parts of the world into the United States are screened to eliminate the chance of a person with a contagious disease entering the country. These screenings and tests may include temperature checks and covid-19 testing. Further, if the traveler comes from a country with a disease outbreak, the traveler may be screened for the respective disease/ illness.
The second precautionary measure includes restricting travel from countries where a disease outbreak occurs. Restricting travel greatly reduces the chance of a contagious disease finding its way within the territories of the United States. The third precautionary measure includes regular public health surveillance to ensure that an infectious disease does not make its way to the United States through borders, air travel, or any other means through which travelers come to the United States. A public health crisis could cost the country so much in terms of productivity, income, resources spent on dealing with the outbreak, etc. therefore, it is wiser to regularly monitor the public health situation. With the help of modern technology and artificial intelligence, it is relatively easier and more efficient to carry out surveillance in modern days (Meier et al., 2020).
