Introduction
Advancements and integration of diverse clinical systems have significantly transformed the quality of care. Patients are now receiving distinguished and personalized services that improve their health outcomes through precision, ease of monitoring, and adherence to recommended management practices. Han et al. (2019) recognize the benefits that one of these health systems, the patient portal, has introduced in the management of diabetes. The authors report that the functionalities of this clinical system have led to increased remote patient-healthcare provider engagements, facilitated self-scheduling, and timely receiving of alerts about their care requirements. As a result, this paper explores different research articles investigating the uses of patient portals in diabetes management and their impact on the quality of care and patient outcomes.
