Admission Essay for Rutgers University-New Brunswick
Human culture is synonymous with fingerprints or zebras’ strips as they can never be the same. As much as the US is my birthplace, I can confidently affirm that I have deeply been exposed to two varying cultures. My family originally hails from Italy. I am part of my family’s second generation born in the United States of America. Though I was reluctant to reveal my Italian roots in the past, eventually, upon reaching high school, I learned to appreciate and take pride in my Italian and Catholic background. Notably, I am also a fluent Italian speaker, apart from my eloquent and competent mastery of the Elizabethan dialect. My parents taught me Italian while growing up, whereas I learned English in school. There are many Italian speakers in the United States of America. This is further coupled by a significant catholic population in the United States, a denomination directly traceable to Rome, Italy.
Nonetheless, being a minority in the United States of America has subjected me to several experiences that I would otherwise have not experienced if I was part of the majority. It is worth noting that I am an active and devoted participant and parishioner in my local church, Saint Thomas Parish. A significant fraction of my childhood has been fashioned around my local church coupled with my Christian upbringing. Besides my commitment to the church and other related activities, I enjoy different hobbies. Key among these hobbies include playing badminton and volleyball. I also have a passion and liking for photography and reading.
High school marked a pivotal phase in my life. It is the phase...
