Mathematics and Economics Personal Statement
I am a student currently studying at New York University but I want to transfer from my current major Sports Management to Mathematics and Economics in the College of Arts and Science (CAS). I feel that with my current studies I cannot realize my goal of making my hometown in China a place that is passionate and supportive to sports. However, I can still influence the world in but in a different way by studying Mathematics and Economics. Studying this course at the university would give me the opportunity to apply the mathematical methods learnt in school to real-life problems, and to explore areas of economics that will equip me with the skills and knowledge to solve problems affecting the society.
My goal when applying for my current studies was to make my hometown in China a place that is passionate and supportive to sports. Professor David Hollander and Professor Kimberly Donaldson introduced me to the world of sports industries. They let me know how powerful and attractive sports are and also taught me the strategies and techniques to become a sports businessman in America. Yes, only in America. Despite the huge market in sports, China has a totally different system. The four major leagues are run privately and the government controls the sports industries.
